The research activities of the unit are mainly devoted to the studies of the inland water ecosystems, both in applied and theoretical contexts. The essential over-arching themes within the unit research are: 

Currently, the research activities and publications within these respective issue areas are, in briefly summarized in the files linked here.  

We envisage that further development to integrate and expand the Unit research activities will occur in the future. Among several additional themes we foresee researches on the ecological status of the Varese Lake and on the bioremediation techniques potentially applicable for the reduction of its trophic status.
